Single master betekent dat er maar één master is in een DALI-systeem die de commando’s naar de slaves (EVG-bedieningsapparaten) stuurt. Multimaster betekent dat actieve communicatie op één lijn is toegestaan voor meerdere deelnemers. Dit is bijvoorbeeld nodig voor drukknoppen, bewegingsmelders, smartphones of soortgelijke apparaten.
